Over one thousand weddings of couples from outside of Greece were held on the spectacularly and beautiful Greek island of Santorini this past summer.
The trend also shows no sign of abating, as the number of couples who decide to ‘tie the knot’ on the Aegean island increases every year, according to the mayor of Santorini.
Sixty percent of foreign couples who marry on Santorini are British, according to figures. The remaining couples are from Europe, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
Although visitors to the island may see what appear to be Chinese and Japanese weddings, these are only ‘renewal of vows’ ceremonies, as their respective country’s laws prohibit marriage abroad.
